Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori posts on social media after injury scare against France

Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has taken to social media platform Instagram this morning to post after the freak injury he sustained while on international duty for Italy last night.

French forward Ousmane Dembele accidentally kicked the back of the left knee of the Gunners star, leaving him in severe pain.

Calafiori played for a couple of minutes more after the incident but was eventually substituted in the 71st minute and was spotted limping on the touchline afterwards.

Sky Sports provided an update on the situation of the Arsenal summer signing, confirming he is expected to be fit for the game against Israel on Monday.

The player himself did not give any hint concerning his fitness in the series of stories and posts he made on Instagram on Saturday, but it appears he is indeed not in any kind of huge pain.

Arsenal resume Premier League action on September 15 against Tottenham Hotspur, and manager Mikel Arteta would have had his heart in his mouth last night after seeing the Italian limping.

The Gunners are already without Mikel Merino and Declan Rice for the North London derby, and injuries to key players are the last thing they need right now as they look to bounce back from the draw against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.

Calafiori came off the bench to make his Arsenal debut against Aston Villa and was also a substitute against the Seagulls, and he could be handed his first start against Spurs.

Arteta will be praying he returns from the international break unscathed, and whether he will be rested against Israel remains to be seen.
