Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori returns from injury to Arsenal training ahead of Atalanta game

Arsenal have been handed a massive injury boost ahead of their Champions League game against Atalanta on Thursday as Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori has returned to training.

The Gunners star picked up an injury during the international break in a match against France, missing the game against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday as a result.

However, Calafiori is expected to be available for selection tomorrow and should also be part of the Arsenal contingent for their trip to face Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The North Londoners secured a 1-0 victory against Spurs without the Italian and other injured stars but could do with them against Man City.

Declan Rice will be also featuring against the Serie A club and Premier League table leaders after a red card saw him miss the trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, it appears Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard will not be playing as he has yet to return to training after he was pictured on crutches a week ago.

Mikel Merino is also still out injured, while the defensive trio of Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko have yet to return too.

Arsenal will be looking to start their Champions League campaign with a victory and also leave the Etihad with all three points on Sunday.

They trail Man City by two points after four Premier League games and will move to the top of the table with a win, which would hand them much-needed boost and huge morale going forward.

The Gunners picked up four points against Man City last term but that was not enough to get them over the line, and they will look to repeat something similar this term and even win both of their league games against them and stop Pep Guardiola and his men from winning five Premier League titles in a row.
