Big blow for Arsenal as Riccardo Calafiori picks up knee injury ahead of Liverpool clash
|Arsenal have suffered a big injury blow ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Gunners have had to cope with multiple injuries over the past month and they are currently without the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber.
The London giants have now suffered another concern with Calafiori picking up a knee injury against Shakhtar. He was replaced by Miles Lewis-Skelly in the 72nd minute.
Calafiori tried to carry on for a few minutes after the setback, but eventually asked to be substituted.
The Italian is now a huge doubt for the league game against Liverpool which could be a crucial decider in the title race this campaign.
Arsenal are already four points behind the Reds in the table and they can’t afford another slip-up against the Merseyside heavyweights.
Calafiori’s absence would be a massive blow for the Gunners, considering their issues in the left-back role.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is out injured while Oleksandr Zinchenko has just returned from injury. Jakub Kiwior has been in poor form lately.
Timber could recover in time for the game, but the Dutchman may be required at centre-back.
With William Saliba suspended, Timber could be asked to partner Gabriel Magalhaes on Sunday.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has a huge selection headache on his hands for the weekend game.
