Arsenal blow as Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber withdrawn against Liverpool after injury

Arsenal were dealt another injury blow during their Premier League game against Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Gabriel Magalhaes withdrawn in the 52nd minute.

The Brazilian centre-back initially went down following a challenge from Reds forward Darwin Nunez, and while he managed to continue after returning to the pitch, he eventually went down again and was withdrawn.

Poland international defender Jakub Kiwior came on for the Arsenal star and manager Mikel Arteta will hope Gabriel has not sustained a serious injury.

The Gunners are already without Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori, while Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka only just returned from injuries to feature against Liverpool.

Arsenal have suffered several injuries so far this term, and losing Gabriel to a long-term knock is the last thing they need right now.

France international centre-back William Saliba missed the game as a result of a suspension but will return for the game against Preston North End on Wednesday.

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to St James Park to face Newcastle United before games against Inter Milan and Chelsea.

Scans will be carried out on Gabriel during the new week to determine the severity of his injury, but seeing him leave the pitch and head straight down the tunnel would have left plenty of Arsenal fans with their hearts in their mouths.

They were leading 2-1 at the time the centre-back left the pitch, and ending the game with all three points will be huge for them after their 2-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend.

Timber was also withdrawn in the 75th minute following a knock, with Myles Lewis-Skelly replacing him.

Being without the Dutchman and Brazilian for some games will be a huge double injury blow for Arsenal, and Arteta will be praying for good news concerning the duo.
