Arsenal handed big boost in signing Sporting CP star next summer

Arsenal have been handed a big boost in signing one of Europe’s best strikers.

The Gunners were linked with multiple centre-forwards during the summer transfer window, but a deal did not materialise for any of them.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko was a prime target at the beginning of June, but he ended up signing a new contract with the German outfit.

Mikel Arteta’s side had an interest in Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, but the Magpies had no interest in negotiating his possible exit.

Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres was available for a £83 million release clause, but Arsenal were reluctant to make such a huge outlay on him.

Gyokeres has continued to be linked with the Gunners and The Times claim that Premier League clubs will receive a discount on the price.

The Swede has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting at the end of the season, provided their valuation is met by suitors.

Premier League clubs have been informed that Gyokeres will be allowed to leave for a minimum package of £63m next summer.

Arsenal have chance to sign Gyokeres for a discount

Gyokeres had a terrific debut season with Sporting with 43 goals and 15 assists from 50 appearances.

He has continued his exceptional form this campaign with 27 goal involvements from just 17 outings.

The 26-year-old is bound to face a stiffer challenge in the Premier League, but he could still prove a lucrative addition.

Kai Havertz’s form up front has been good in 2024, but the German has yet to find consistency to score in almost every appearance.

Arsenal need someone of that calibre to compete for the title and they could spend big on Gyokeres at the end of the season.

With a £20m discount on the buy-out clause, the Gunners could contemplate a move if they are unable to land Sesko or Isak.

Isak seems the ideal fit as his playing style would perfectly suit the London giants.

Meanwhile, Sesko could be considered as a signing with long-term success in mind.

Gyokeres has been scoring for fun, but Arsenal could turn to him only if they can’t land one of the above duo in our view.
