Arsenal owner and chairman Stan Kroenke is extremely unlikely to sanction a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners simply cannot afford the British-record transfer fee it would take to sign the Magpies star this summer, with the St James Park club asking for around £150 million from suitors.

Isak and his representatives are aware that Arsenal are keen on him, with manager Mikel Arteta a huge admirer.

Given that he has a contract with Newcastle until 2028, the Toons are not in a rush to sell the 25-year-old and are desperate to keep him beyond the end of the season.

Should they opt to listen to Arsenal or other suitors, it is expected that the British record £115m Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo would have to be broken for a sale to happen.

The North Londoners are reportedly ready to spend around £100m on a single signing in the next transfer window, with a new number 9 their top target, but it could take significantly more than that to convince Newcastle to part with the Sweden international anytime soon.

He has 13 Premier League goals in 18 appearances so far this season and has notched two goals in four Carabao Cup games, including the opener as the Magpies ran out 2-0 winners against Arsenal in the first-leg of the semi-finals of the competition on Tuesday.

The Gunners could do with such a player leading their line, but it appears they will be looking elsewhere for other targets given the finances involved.
