Bukayo Saka spotted at Emirates Stadium to watch Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur
|
Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has been spotted for the first time since undergoing surgery following an injury he sustained on December 21 against Crystal Palace.
The England international joined his teammates tonight for the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, and he was seen watching them warm up while on crutches.
The Gunners star was with Riccardo Calafiori and Ethan Nwaneri, who are also both injured, and their teammates will be hoping to dedicate a win to them tonight.
Arsenal have suffered plenty of injuries this term, with Gabriel Jesus the latest player to pick up a knock, which could now rule him out of the campaign.
Being without such a player as they look to challenge for the Premier League title will be a huge blow considering his recent form, but Saka could return sooner or later.
The Gunners had been hoping their academy graduate would return to training during the final week of February, with a view to having him available to play in March.
However, his lay-off may now extend into April following surgery, and manager Mikel Arteta will be praying that is not the case.
Arsenal need their influential attacker back sooner rather than later, and they may be forced to bring in a forward on loan during the ongoing January transfer window.
A win tonight will go a long way to give them a much-needed boost, but they cannot afford to continue the campaign without strengthening in the final third after their squad depth got decimated by key injuries.
The Gunners reportedly could look to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres despite his €100 million release clause, and landing the 32-goal hitman could make a huge difference this term and in subsequent campaigns.
Arsenal have the chance to close the gap between them and Premier League leaders Liverpool after the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, and getting three points at the expense of Spurs tonight will be sweet.
