Arsenal have made recent contact with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal have made recent contact with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig over a potential January transfer deal for Benjamin Sesko, according to journalist and transfer expert Ben Jacobs.

The Gunners have had the Slovenian striker on their radar for a while and are now hoping to land him before the end of the ongoing winter transfer window.

A loan deal has been ruled out, and Arsenal will have to offer a permanent deal to have any chance of signing Sesko this month, but getting him could prove tricky.

The North Londoners want a new striker after losing both Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka, and the 21-year-old fits the style of play of manager Mikel Arteta.

Sesko has 13 goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions this term after ending last season with 18 goals and two assists, and Arsenal could do with such a player leading their attack.

Joining the Gunners appealed to him last summer, but he opted to sign a contract extension with Leipzig once it was clear he was not going to be guaranteed a spot in their starting XI.

The situation has changed following injuries to several key attackers, but whether Sesko is keen on changing clubs mid-way through the season remains to be seen.

He had a ÂŁ55 million release clause in his previous contract, which Arsenal were more than willing to activate, and it reportedly remains active should suitors look to sign him.

It is a decent fee for a striker with such a huge potential, but convincing both club and player to agree to a deal could prove to be insurmountable roadblocks.

There are less than two weeks left in the January transfer window, and the Gunners do not have plenty of time to waste if they want to strengthen their squad with a quality forward for the second half of the campaign.
